Contracted storm debris collections started Monday morning as the City of Maitland increases recovery efforts from Hurricane Milton.
The additional daily storm debris pickup will focus on large, loose debris piled in residential areas. The first priority is to pick up the largest tree sections and limbs partially blocking roads and public right of ways. Other large loose debris piles will immediately follow.
This is in addition to the city’s ongoing work with Waste Pro, which is collecting bagged, bundled and canned debris in residential areas. City Public Works crews also continue efforts to clear debris from streets and stormwater systems.
The additional contracted debris hauling will pick up large debris piles using a mechanical claw truck. To ensure the fastest pickup, please follow these guidelines:
• Piles should be placed away from mailboxes, street lights, storm drains and underground water meter boxes.
• Do not push piles into streets or block piles with vehicles.
• Separate yard waste from non-vegetative debris (i.e household waste, fencing, play equipment etc.). Piles with non-vegetative waste mixed in cannot be picked up by the city’s debris hauler.
• Small branches and loose leaves should be bagged or placed in curbside collection containers for yard waste collection by Waste Pro.
• If possible, smaller limbs should be tied together in bundles measuring no longer than 4 feet.
Residents and businesses also can take large amounts of limbs and yard waste directly to the Seminole County Central Transfer Station at 1950 State Road 419 in Longwood. Please show proof of residency.
Orange County has the following drop-off sites for non-commercial yard waste, including leaves, branches, and other natural debris from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sunday. The sites will accept only loose vegetative debris—no bags or containers. Please show proof of residency.
