Maitland Public Library has served generations of residents since 1896, providing an invaluable resource for reading, learning and exploration. The facility needs more space and other critical upgrades. Public support is needed to construct a new library with outdoor improvements at Quinn Strong Park.
City voters will decide whether to approve $14 million in public bond financing to build the new library. A referendum will appear on ballots for the March 19, 2024, Florida Presidential Preference Primary.
The proposed two-story, 20,000-square-foot structure would be built near the city’s existing, 12,300-square-foot city library, which originally opened in 1907. Despite expansions in 1959, 1972 and 1989, that building is cramped for many current library activities and has no extra property for additional building enlargements. A 2017 study indicated that numerous essential construction improvements would reduce the building’s interior space.
