Fort Maitland Park has reopened after extensive renovations for recreational improvements.
The facility at 900 S. Orlando Ave. features a new playground and picnic pavilion, outdoor seating and reconstructed restrooms. Scenic landscaping includes more than 50 planted trees such as sabal palms, cypress, oak and tabebuia.
The dock next to the park’s boat ramp was modified to create a covered viewing area looking over Lake Maitland. A small area south of the dock provides more convenient lake access for canoes and paddleboards. Concrete walkways connect different areas of the park.
Vehicle parking areas and travel lanes were redesigned to improve traffic management as well as access to the boat ramp. Those areas also were resurfaced.
The park currently is closed during final construction. After Monday’s reopening, hours will be 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
