[ARCHIVED] Hurricane Debris and Household Waste Collections begin Monday

Debris Removal Guidelines

Both hurricane debris collection and residential household garbage collection will begin Monday in Maitland.

Maitland residents must have hurricane-related debris separated into piles at the curb – not in the street – for timely collection. This is ONLY for storm debris - do not include household garbage or recycling into the debris piles.

Household waste will be collected by WastePro beginning Monday for those residents scheduled on that day. Do not use garbage or recycling containers or garbage bags for storm debris.

Separate storm debris as follows:

Construction and demolition materials (building construction materials – wood, metal, drywall, shingles, etc., as well as building contents and personal property – furnishings, clothing, appliances, etc.)

Vegetative materials (trees, limbs, brush, leaves, etc.)

Household hazardous waste (paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, pesticides, etc.); please be sure these materials are in a secured container and are not leaking in any way.

Dirt / sediment (soil, sand, gravel, etc.)

IMPORTANT: Storm debris placed outside in plastic bags or inside household garbage and recycling containers will not be picked up. It is the home / business owner’s responsibility to bring the debris to the curb and to properly separate it.

Please ensure that storm debris piles are placed several feet away from household garbage and recycling containers. Also make sure that vehicles do not block storm debris piles or household garbage and recycling containers.

Do not place storm debris or household collection containers in the street or around street signs, light poles or above-ground utility boxes.

Your cooperation will make the debris removal operation proceed smoothly and ensure that the community recovers as quickly as possible.  For questions, please contact the City of Maitland at (407) 616-5338.
