The pedestrian boardwalk on the east side of Maitland Community Park will be closed on Wednesday.
Workers will measure for a proposed reconstruction of the boardwalk, which is scheduled next summer. The project will widen the 600-foot-long elevated boardwalk from 8 feet to 10 feet wide in order to better accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
The widened boardwalk will improve Maitland’s expanding network of bike and pedestrian trails. It also is a direct link in an east-west connector that aims to provide an unobstructed recreational route between a residential area east of Maitland Community Park and the new Fennel Park on the west side of Maitland.
The city currently has nearly 18 miles of trails, paths and bike lanes extending through many residential and commercial areas.
