The Maitland Police Department warns residents to avoid fraudulent phone calls impersonating a police officer who requests payment for bogus warrants.
The misleading scammer claims to be Lt. Moore or Capt. Plumlee with the Maitland City Police Department. Calls are falsely identified as originating from Maitland’s emergency dispatch phone number. The scammer tells victims that they have warrants, which can be resolved if they provide payment with cryptocurrency.
The Maitland Police Department will never call you to request payments to an officer. The department will never request payments in cryptocurrency.
