The City of Maitland will host a public presentation of design plans for a new library at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at City Hall, 1776 Independence Lane.
The project will construct a new facility at Quinn Strong Park to address Maitland's growing library needs. Once completed, the existing city library on Maitland Avenue will be preserved for another public use.
The City Council will vote on design plans at noon Wednesday, Jan. 8, at City Hall.
The library originally opened in 1907. Despite expansions in 1959, 1972 and 1989, that building off of Maitland Avenue is cramped for many current library activities and has no extra property for additional building enlargements. A 2017 study indicated that numerous essential construction improvements would reduce the building’s interior space. Conceptual plans for a new, larger facility were approved last year.
