Hurricane Milton Update - 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12
City Public Works crews are making more progress today to clean up from Hurricane Milton. Waste Pro has four trucks conducting initial residential yard waste collections today.
City Public Works crews are making more progress today to clean up from Hurricane Milton at Maitland Community Park, Bellamy Park and Minnehaha Park. Efforts will soon move on to Independence Square.
Maitland Community Park likely will not open today. Fort Maitland Park is closed due to high water levels on Lake Maitland. Other parks are open. The Parks and Recreation Department also is taking reservations for courts at Minnehaha Park and Hill Recreation Center Park.
Waste Pro has four trucks collecting the first round of yard debris today. Efforts are slowed by long wait times at the local landfill, so crews are picking up bags and cans of yard waste to reach as many homes as possible. Collection of bundled branches and today’s uncompleted routes will resume Wednesday.
Preparing your yard waste is the best way to be included in these initial city collections.
• Place yard waste in bags or garbage collection bins behind the street curb and weighing no more than 50 pounds each.
• Large limbs should be tied together in bundles measuring no longer than 4 feet.
• Separate yard waste from other types of debris or household garbage or recycling.
• Do not put debris in the street or on top of water meters or storm drains.
