Leisure Services Programs

Springtime is always an exciting time in the Leisure Services Department and our Park System.  Leisure Services is currently taking reservations for our youth tennis summer program slated for June, July and August. On May 10th we are also introducing a Starter Tournament for ages 10, 12 and 14, for more information about these programs please visit the City website or call (407) 539-0042.

New this season, we have introduced a Middle School and High School Open Gym program on Thursday evenings from April 10th through May 29th. In addition, we are hosting month long Basketball Fundamentals Clinics for 2nd through 6th graders on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. The clinics will begin in April and continue through August. For more information contact Darrell Jessee at (407) 539-2830.

Adult Tennis Program Sessions begin this week and run through May 18th with play and instruction available at beginner through intermediate levels. We are also offering doubles strategy, cardio tennis and a men’s adult clinic through August.

Our Community Park class schedule includes two S.A.F.E. classes at Maitland Community Park on April 16th and May 21st. This course is open to all women interested in learning about self-defense. In addition we are offering “Peppers – Some Like It Hot”, a gardening class, on May 21st. For either of these courses, call (407) 539-0042.

For those of you who enjoy walking, and for others as well, please check out our newly installed walking paths at Minnehaha Park and Lake Lily Park. You will find an information sign explaining walking distances at those properties and 1/10th mile markers have been placed along the paths to help you build a walking program designed just for you. Installed as a park of Maitland Walks, these paths will complement a 2-mile course in Maitland Center. Thanks to Healthy Maitland, Winter Park Health Foundation and Florida Hospital for their support in making these paths a reality.

Join us for the City of Maitland’s Farmers’ Market on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lake Lily Park.  Please note the market will be closed on April 13th for the Maitland Chamber of Commerce’s Spring Festival of the Arts and April 20th for Easter.  The market will reopen on April 27th.

Mark your calendars for the next Movie in the Park on May 3rd.  We are pleased to announce that by special arrangement, Leisure Services will be showing Disney’s “Frozen” the “Sing-along Version” at 8 p.m. in Quinn Strong Park.  This special version of the Disney smash hit features on-screen lyrics with a magical bouncing snowflake to follow along.  Bring the entire family to this special film event in Maitland. Get there early and remember – you bring the chair, we will show you the stars!
