Community Development Director Elected to Leadership Position

In November, the American Academy of Certified Public Managers elected Community Development Director Dan Matthys to the role of Director of Education and Programming.

Dan will serve a two-year term starting in January.   He will be responsible for all programming and educational opportunities to advance the messaging for the American Academy of Certified Public Managers.
Established in 1984, the AACPM is a trade association of public sector managers for the promotion of professionalism and ethical standards in public management.
Dan earned his Certified Public Manager credential in July 2004 from Florida State University.  To earn the CPM designation, participants must complete a two-year intensive leadership training.  The program is broken down into eight challenging modules, each requiring 40 hours of classwork followed by a written assignment graded by a professor.  At the conclusion of the program, Dan submitted a 120-page paper for his capstone study class.  The topic of the paper was, “Essential Leadership Skills for the Current Day Planning Director.”
Dan served as a board member for the North Carolina Society of the Certified Public Managers three years ago.  He also was appointed by the AACPM President to serve on the Accreditation Committee for Arizona State University’s application to develop a CPM program in Arizona.
“Throughout the program, I learned a lot about myself and what leadership truly means.  I highly recommend the Certified Public Manager program for anyone who is up for the challenge of self-reflection and developing practical and effective leadership skills,” said Dan.
