Official Storm Information Release

As of Friday, August 28, 2015, the Governor has declared a State of Emergency for the State of Florida.  There will be a county-wide briefing on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at which time the City will determine if the City’s Emergency Operations Center will be activated.  


All City Departments have been briefed and are currently preparing for the possible impacts of Tropical Storm Erika.  The City’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan is in action and pre-storm activities are underway.  The City strongly encourages you to make preparations for yourself and your family.  Make sure you have an emergency plan, get notifications and stay informed, and protect your home. 
 

Notifications - The City will share information through the following:
• Facebook – www.facebook.com/itsmymaitland - updates will use #ErikaMaitland
• Twitter – www.twitter.com/itsmymaitland - updates will use #ErikaMaitland 
• www.itsmymaitland.com – updates will be posted as a special notice accessible from the City’s home page. 
• Ocalert.net – Orange County’s OCALERT allows you to sign up for text and e-mail alerts regarding emergency situations within the county. 

Sandbags – The City of Maitland does not provide sandbags, however Orange County’s Public Works will have sandbags available for citizen pick up (maximize 10 per vehicle) at all eight Maintenance Unit locations on Friday, Aug. 28 and Aug. 29, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For information and locations, visit www.ocfl.net/ocsandbaginfo.


Shelters – There are no shelters located within the City of Maitland.  If it becomes necessary to open shelter, the Red Cross at the webpage www.redcross.org/find-help/shelter


City Hours and Park Closures – The City currently anticipates regular office and park hours on Monday, August 31, 2015. 


Garbage and Recycling Pickups – There are currently no changes to the City’s garbage and recycling pickups for Monday and Tuesday.  This may change as the path of the storm becomes more certain. 


Power Outages – Power outages should be immediately reported to Duke Energy either via their power outage number 1-800-228-8485 or online at http://www.duke-energy.com.
