CITY OF MAITLAND TO HOLD IMPORTANT EMS WEEK "FILE OF LIFE" EVENT
Maitland, FL. --(May 5, 2003)- On May 17, 2003 the City of Maitland will host a "File of Life" and EMS Week Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Maitland Senior Center at 345 S. Maitland Avenue.  The event will celebrate Emergency Medical Services Week and will also serve to launch the "File of Life" program.

This important program is a co-operative effort with Orange County designed to save the lives of emergency 911 callers when the EMS team arrives on the scene.  Participants in the program fill out emergency information about health conditions and medications and the completed packets are posted on the fridge and in the glove compartments of vehicles.  Paramedics then have important vital information, which assists them in saving lives when they arrive on the scene of an emergency.   A database is kept so that local EMS can remind program participants to update their information regularly.

The "File of Life" EMS Week Health Fair is an attempt to get the population to the event to register for this important life saving program.  The event will be complete with Blood Pressure Checks, Care Seat Safety Information, CPR Demonstrations, and Hazardous Household Item Identification by the Maitland Fire, Rescue, and Building Department.  Other activities planned include massage therapy, hearing assessments, vascular screening, nutritious food samples from Antonio's, continuous entertainment, novelty handcrafted items for sale, and a bounce house, popcorn, and snocones for the children.
