CITY OF MAITLAND STAGES MOCK DISASTER

Maitland, FL. --(October 12, 2000)-- The City of Maitland’s Fire
Department will stage its Mock Disaster session of the CERT Training
course on October 25, 2000 at 6:45 p.m. The event will take
place at the Germaine Marvel Building located on Packwood Avenue in
Maitland directly across from the Maitland Art Center.
The course, which covers preliminary disaster preparedness, is
highlighted by the “hands on” “real-life” mock disaster. During
this staged disaster participants must use the CPR, first aid, triage,
small tools, and fire extinguisher training learned to rescue some 25
artistically made-up victims, combat a contained fire, while handling
several flash bang incidents. The purpose of this course is to
teach residents how to handle a crisis situation until the fire
department and emergency response team can get to the
scene.
“This mock disaster allows residents the opportunity to become
empowered and handle disaster situations within their families and
their communities,” commented Maitland Fire Chief Dan Hardester.
“We are extremely proud to be able to offer this ‘free of charge’
life-saving opportunity to our residents,” continued Hardester.
