CITY OF MAITLAND MOVES FORWARD WITH CITY HALL AND FIRE STATION

Maitland, FL – November 12, 2009 – After years of community discussion since issuing bonds to build a Police Station, Fire Station and City Hall, the City of Maitland has taken a major step in the process to complete the Fire Station and City Hall. The first of the three, the Edward Doyle Police Headquarters, will open on November 19.

At a Maitland Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board meeting, held on November 11, the CRA approved an amendment to the Town Center Development Agreement, positioning the City to move forward with a new City Hall and Fire Station.

The plan to move forward, which resulted in the amendment to the Development Agreement, was presented to the Maitland community by Mayor Doug Kinson at a CRA Board meeting on October 26th.

The amendment that passed on Wednesday evening enables the City of Maitland to place construction plans out for public bid for the City Hall and Fire Station. It is anticipated that the new buildings will be constructed on the existing City property located at 1776 Independence Lane.

Significant parts of the original development agreement, signed in 2007, remain unchanged, providing the developer the opportunity to seek and secure financing for the redevelopment program and to move forward with plans of redevelopment of Maitland’s Downtown area.

For additional information regarding this decision, please contact Verl Emrick, Maitland’s Community Redevelopment Agency Director, at vemrick@itsmymaitland.com.
