CITY OF MAITLAND RECOGNIZED FOR
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT SUCCESS

Maitland, FL – August 7, 2009 - The City of Maitland has been recognized by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) for excellent performance measurement and management efforts with a Certificate of Achievement from the ICMA Center for Performance Measurement. Maitland is one of 20 jurisdictions to receive this honor this year.

In the current economic climate, Maitland wants to ensure that performance measurement is more effective and transparent than ever before. This helps the City to maintain cost management, program prioritization and quality improvement. It also helps staff to encourage accountability and transparency throughout the organization.

“The certificate program is one of the pillars of the Center for Performance Measurement,” says Michael Lawson, director of CPM. “Through our certificate program, local governments are recognized for their exceptional commitment to continuous learning and improvement. The criteria on which the certificates are based serve as a checklist of effective, results-oriented management practices.”

Criteria for the Certificate of Achievement include:
reporting of performance data to the public through budgets, newsletters, and/or information provided to elected officials
verification efforts to ensure the data’s reliability
staff training in the principles of performance measurement.

This is the first time Maitland has been recognized for this achievement, illustrating the work done by employees to ensure performance measurements are up-to-par and display an accurate account of the services the City provides.
