Energy Conservation
Energy Conservation

The cost of energy is rising and affects our environment.  To reduce energy use and costs at home and work:

  • Institute a "Turn it Off" policy at work and at home for lights and electronic equipment.
  • Have your air conditioning system maintained regularly to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Buy Energy Star certified fixtures and electronics and appliances.  Visit http://www.energystar.gov/ for more information.
  • Switch to Compact Florescent light bulbs if you haven't already.
  • Visit the Progress Energy website for more tips and incentives.

Progress Energy offers energy efficiency incentives.  Whether you're trying to reduce energy costs, environmental impact or both, Progress Energy can assist you in evaluating measures and provides incentives for homeowners.  Here's just one of the several incentives offered by Progress Energy:

Progress Energy Insulation Check: http://www.progress-energy.com/custservice/flares/energyhome/insulation.asp
If the attic insulation in your home is less than R-16 (an index of insulation value), you may be eligible for the ceiling incentive.  Once it is recommended during your Home Energy Check, Progress Energy will pay part of the cost to upgrade your attic insulation to either R-19 or R-30. The level you choose will determine the amount Progress Energy pays. You'll receive a list of participating contractors to choose from so that you can have the insulation installed.
