Architectural Style - Florida City Halls

1st meeting- "Wants"
  • A futuristic look."
  • Set a trend.
  • Don't follow others.
  • Lead "into" the future.
  • No modern buildings!!


2nd meeting-"Wants"
  • Needs to have regional flair.
  • No flat roof.
  • Like Pensacola.
  • Like Fort Pierce.
  • Reinterpretation of Historic Maitland house or building.


2nd meeting-"Concerns"
  • Needs to be traditional
  • Ease of maintenance.
  • Interior of architecture should reflect the design on the exterior.
  • This building needs to identify and so clearly define Maitland.


3rd meeting-"Wants"
  • To look like Winter Park Bank of America Building.
  • Keep it light.
  • Need porches.
  • Georgian or Federal Style.
  • Clock tower.
  • Fountains.
  • Park
  • Brick and Stone.
  • Do not continue arts center style.
  • "Under pass" at 17-92 to allow connectivity.



Architectural Style - Federal

1st meeting- "Wants"
  • 5 votes for image "J"
  • 1 vote for Image "P"


2nd meeting-"Wants"
  • Lighter colors.
  • Needs to be warm and inviting.
  • Morph images into something more regional. Must have more of Florida feel.
  • Architecture must reflect final location.
  • Should not feel northern.
  • Needs residential character.
  • Like towers


2nd meeting-"Concerns"
  • No "Philly style"
  • Need southern style.


3rd meeting-"Wants"
  • 3 study federal style building
  • Can the art center style be incorporated?
  • Spanish Mediterranean style - "Shows strength", appears Ft. Maitland look.
  • Finished roof.
  • Enduring style.
  • "Welcoming"
  • Any style OK if we have enough square footage


3rd meeting - "Concerns"
  • No modern style!
  • No neoclassical style.
  • Prison-like looking - Public Safety building.
  • Risk of terrorism. Has this been incorporated?
  • Seeing service from Maitland Avenue.
  • No "Fru-fru".
  • More "fru-fru" to assure the authenticity of style.
  • Make it real!
  • Federal style



Architectural Style - Georgian

1st meeting - "Wants"
  • Use style and materials that will grow with the coming years.
  • Have some consideration in looking to avoid "sticking out like a sore thumb"
  • Image "E".


1st meeting - "Concerns"
  • Style should be consistent.
  • Modern could become outdated in time.
  • Image "E" too Flat - columns, steps, porch help to make a building more inviting.


2nd meeting -"Wants"
  • Like tower "N".
  • Southern influence. Needs reinterpretation of cracker style.
  • "Big house concept".
  • "Maitland Style".
  • Needs to feel very southern.


2nd meeting -"Solutions"
  • Needs awnings and porches.


3rd meeting -"Wants"
  • No comments.



Architectural Style - Modern

1st meeting - "Wants"
  • Choose material that would be relatively maintenance free, both for the initial construction and the upkeep afterwards.


2nd meeting -"Wants"
  • Modern redo of cracker style.


3rd meeting -"Wants"

Architectural Style - NeoClassical

1st meeting - "Wants"
  • I think "J" Federal Style and "E" Georgian Style would work well with the Public Safety Building.


1st meeting -"Concerns"
  • Traffic/Pedestrian issues for the Horatio Roundabout.
  • Very concerned about having the building plunked in the middle of Horatio Ð in spite of the anticipated traffic re-routing/improvements.


2nd meeting -"Wants"
  • Locate on 17.92, Lake Avenue or Maitland Blvd.


2nd meeting -"Concerns"
  • In downtown with high pedestrian area


3rd meeting -"Wants"
