A Master Plan was adopted for the Maitland's Downtown in 1997. The aspirations of the Plan were to promote reinvestment in the corridor and provide new neighborhood/ community centers with a more concentrated mixed use of government, office, residential and commercial activity. Subsequently, a Downtown Maitland Revitalization Plan was prepared in 2003 to extend the concepts of the original Master Plan. The Revitalization Plan included several objectives for the commercial corridor, such as:
- Design Standards for the three Districts along the Corridor
- Preservation of Existing Neighborhood Character
- Infrastructure Improvements
- Funding Strategies for Implementation of the Objectives
