Maitland Kids Give-a-way!
This Saturday, October 13, beginning at 6pm the City of Maitland before the showing of the Movie in the Park “The Lorax” offers one free tree per child resident in a concerted and ongoing effort to beautify the community. Only a limited number of trees will given away. The tree give-a-way ends at 7:00pm when the movie begins.
Included with the program are planting and care instructions. The Tree offered is native to the region and adaptable to the local environment. The tree are young sapling liners. Kids will be asked to name their tree and send in on-growing pictures of their tree that will posted on the City website. We would like to thank Cherry Lake Tree Farm for their kind contribution to our program.
The Tree!
The native Dahoon Holly is a beautiful evergreen holly that can be grown as a tree or a large shrub. The tree grows up to 30 feet with soft, smooth-edged leaves, white flowers in the spring, and red or yellow berries in the fall and winter. These berries are attractive to wildlife as a food source. The tree does well in either full sun or partial shade
