
A native of Essex, Connecticut where his family owned and operated the Essex Island Marina, Mr. Schieferdecker’s early years were spent working at the family business. Upon graduation from High School he attended the University of Miami to study Architecture. During his study at the University, he worked for three architects and a construction company. These experiences helped him expand his knowledge in design and construction and would prove valuable in future years.
Mr. Schieferdecker graduated from the University of Miami in 1980, the very same year he married his wife Joelene. They moved to Maitland in 1984 where they have reared two children; A daughter Francine, now a physical therapist at the VA hospital in Miami, and a son, Louis now working on his master’s degree at the Reformed Theological Seminary.
Mr. Schieferdecker owned and operated his own acquisition and development company, Schiefer-Decker Properties, for many years and has developed more than two million square feet of Office/Retail/Warehouse space in the greater Orlando area. In addition, his professional endeavors would include the development of two residential subdivisions, one of which is Stonehill, a 31 lot high-end community in Maitland.
Prior to his election to the Maitland City Council, Mr. Schieferdecker was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission and has also served on the Transportation Advisory Board. Shortly after his election to City Council, with the Mayor resigning to run for the Orange County Commission, he was appointed by the City Council to serve as Mayor for the balance of the resigning Mayor's unexpired term.
